THE PEAL OF EIGHT BELLS WAS FIRST CHIMED IN 1888,
THE YEAR AFTER THE JUBILEE OF
HER MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA.
PREVIOUSLY FOUR BELLS ONLY WERE HUNG, AND THESE
WERE FOUND TO BE IN BAD CONDITION; THEY WERE THEREFORE
SENT TO MESSRS TAYLOR’S FOUNDRY, LOUGHBOROUGH;
THREE TOO BE RETURNED, AND ONE RECAST.
THESE ARE NOW THE 4TH, 5TH, 6TH AND 7TH BELLS OF THE PEAL.
THE FOUR NEW BELLS, NAMELY THE 1ST (TREBLE), 2ND, 3RD,
AND 8TH (TENOR) BELLS, ALSO CAST AT MESSRS TAYLOR’S
FOUNDRY, WERE ADDED IN THE YEAR ABOVE MENTIONED
BY GEORGE BURT AND HIS FAMILY, TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY
OF HIS WIFE. THE THREE OLD BELLS, RETURNED,
BEAR RESPECTIVELY THE FOLLOWING INSCRIPTIONS:

“THINKE ON GOD, I.W. 1612”
“FEAR GOD”, I.W. 1612”
“HONOUR THE KING, I.W. 1621”

THE OLD BELL, RECAST, WAS INSCRIBED AS FOLLOWS:

“LESSER AND PACK OF LONDON, FECIT 1764”

THE FOUR BELLS, ADDED IN THE YEAR 1888, EACH BEAR
THE FOLLOWING INSCRIPTION.

“TO THE MEMORY OF MRS ELIZABETH BURT, WHO DIED AT
PURBECK HOUSE, JANUARY 6TH 1886”

THE COST OF REPAIRING THE OLD BELLS, FIXING NEW
FRAMEWORK, AND HANGING THE PEAL OF EIGHT BELLS, WAS
DEFRAYED FROM THE INCOME OF THE CHURCH LANDS FUNDS.

And PRISCILLA his Wife an affectionate Mother
to their Children; she died 18th March 1801 Aged 73

This Monument Placed here, as a testimony of
Filial Affection and Gratitude
