LAND TAX ASSESSMENTS

Although a tax was charged on the value of land throughout most of the 18th and 19th century, the surviving records for Dorset cover the period 1780 to 1836. I have only transcribed the records for every tenth year. The tithe map and apportionments circa 1840 provide further details plus a map (these are held at the Dorset Record Office).

These records have been transcribed by me from film at the DRO Ref: MIC/R/912. Individual references are; 1790 42/11/8, 1800  42/17/8, 1810  42/25/8,  1820  42/35/8 ,  1830  42/43/8. Manston is in the Redlane Hundred. The record for 1780 is very faint and has not been deciphered. Lynda Mudle-Small, January 2003
