St Cuthberts
St Cuthberts by Michael Day

Oborne is a small village and parish in the north-west of Dorset situated on the banks of the river Yeo, 1 mile north-east of Sherborne, adjacent in the East to the County of Somerset. A new parish church, designed by William Slater, was built on a fresh site in 1862. The church of St Cuthbert is very simple in style, nave with bellcote, chancel and apse. The chancel of the original church built about 1530 still exists, half a mile south, on the other side of the A30 and is cared for by the Redundant Churches Fund. The original church is actually situated in the parish of Castleton.

The name Oborne is derived from 'Woh' - Place at and 'burna' - the crooked or winding stream. The registers date from 1568.
