WILLIAM DOW died 14 July 1866 In his 72 year also CAROLINE his wife who departed this life 13 November 1873 In Memory of SAMUEL PRETOR of Bellfield who died March 9th 1877 In the 86th year of his age Looking for the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life Also his wife FRANCES PRETOR who died at Bellfield October 9th 1898 Aged 88 SARAH ADELAIDE SLADE THOMPSON and SARAH THOMPSON died 4th October Aged 6 years JAMES DOLPHIN Late Capt. Rifle Brigade 21 Sep 1874 Aged 64 In Memory of JESSIE MAS SEABROOKE child of WILLIAM and SARAH SEABROOKE who departed this life September 16th 1864 Aged 1 year and four months The Lord gave and the Lord hath Taken Away. In this Churchyard are deposited the Remains of PRISCILLA AWDRY of Notton In the County of Wilts who died at Weymouth on the 1st of June 1814 In the Fifteenth Year of her Age The clock in the tower of this Church was given by the Rev. HENRY CLARENCE PIGOU, Rector of this Parish and CATHERINE LOUISA his Wife, In loving memory of their only son HENRY LEWIS PIGOU who died Dec 18, 1867, aged 8 years; and in the desire to show by this token their grateful sense of the kind sympathy & loving interest by which all their neighbours cheered amid its many infirmities & much suffering the short life of their infant son. By it he, being dead, yet speaketh In Loving Memory of JAMES YEO ATKINS Born July 8th 1837 Died July 11th 1920 And MARTHA ATKINS Born April 4th 1838 Died March 6th 1919 They were the Master and Mistress of the Schools in this Parish from 1858 to 1889 Make them to be numbered with thy Saints in Glory Everlasting To the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of SAMUEL ASHTON PRETOR eldest son of SAMUEL PRETOR Born at Sherbourne House, Dorset Jan 18th 1833 Died at Belfield House, Weymouth Aug 15th 1907 He served in the Indian Mutiny with the 9th Lancers 1857-1859 and was J.P. for the County of Dorset for 30 years (The family is now extinct) THE BELLS in this Tower were restored in GRATITUDE TO GOD for the work and service in this Parish of EDWARD DE BASSETT THURSTON Rector here from 1918 to 1942 R.I.P. Here lies c/y Body of CATHERINE JERRARD Obt d22 Sepr 1763 Atat 66 Also c/y body of JOHN JERRARD her son Obt 28h Novr 1766 Atat 44 A Dutiful Son Tender Husband Loving Father & a good friend In memory of the Revd. John Hill BD Rector of this Parish and formerly Vice Principal of St. Edmunds Hall Oxford He departed this life Feb 22nd 1855 Aged 63 years ans was buried in the Churchyard of St. Peters in the East, Oxford The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want To the Glory of God and in grateful remembrance of SIDNEY EDMUND DAVIS MA late Canon of Sarum and Prehendary of Grimstone and Yetminster, and Rector of this Parish 1899-1918 who entered into Rest July 10th 1918, Aged 73 Years This tablet is erected by Parishioners who also gave in his memory a Silver Chalice and Paten for use at the Alter. In memory of the Revd SAMUEL PAYNE AM Rector of this Parish and Portland who died Decr 6th 1801 in the 63rd year of his age To the Glory of God and in loving memory of CHARLES MEYRICK HICKES Naval Cadet HMS Britania (then of Portland) only son of the REV. GEORGE HICKES and only grandson of CHARLES HICKS Surgeon of Bath he died after a few days illness 28 Oct 1862 Age 14 His grave is in the upper church yard (a trust fund for keeping it in order is left to the Rector & Churchwardens) This tablet is erected in loving memory of WILLIAM HENLEY STANLEY CLARKE late of the Madras 7th Cavalry eldest son of the late RHP CLARKE Esq. BCS He died at sea between Dunedin and Melbourne Dec 23rd 1876 Age 37 years Also to the memory of ALICE MARY youngest daughter to RHP CLARKE Esq. She died at Cheltenham Aug 22 1862 Age 17 years RICHARD HENRY PELLY CLARKE Esq. late of the Bengal Civil Service and 6th son of the late WILLIAM STANLEY CLARKE Esq. of ELM Bank Leatherhead, who died at Point De Galle Ceylon on the 21st Feb 1845 Age 35 years To the Memory of JOHN ANDREWS Esq. of Weymouth who departed this life Jan 30 1809 Age 56 years |
In a vault at the northend of the churchyard are deposited the remains of SAMUEL WESTON Esquire of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis Merchant and one of the aldermen of the borough who died 19 Sept 1817 Age 61 This tablet was erected by his disconsolate wife as a token of her imperishable affection Marble cannot eulogize one whose more enduring testimony is a good name. He was a husband, a father and a friend. In the same vault lies MARY daughter of JAMES WILLIS widow of SAMUEL WESTON Sacred to the memory of REBECCA DAVIS, and JAMES, her beloved husband, whose remains are interred near to this monument. She died 26th October 1814 age 51 years and he survived her until the 7th November 1837 age 79 years To the memory of BENJAMIN WOOD Esq. Late of Merton in the county of Surrey who departed this life at Weymouth in the fourth day of Jan 1817 Age 39 years DAVID FESTING Ob Infans 1762? The Isle of Portland Citisen and Mason of London who Departed this life April Ye 16 Anno Dom 1692 Aged 48 year (Inscribed on the floor by the altar on the right hand side) Here lies the body of Yr Revd JOHN CUTTING who was Rector of this Church & died on the 3rd Day A.D. In the year Of MARY, Relick of D. MOR….. who died 24th June 1761? How her study throughout was not to seem, but to be ? Will appear at y Judgement of the Great Day? George Chamberlaine 28 years rector of this Parish who died 3rd October 1837 Age 74 Also of MARGARET CHAMBERLAINE his second wife who died Dec 4th 1847 Also SUSANNA CHAMBERLAINE the beloved wife of Rev'd GEORGE CHAMBERLAINE who departed this life June 12 1815 Age 34 years In memory of CHARLES BUXTON Esq. Of Belfield who died July the 16 1817 in his 88th year Also of HANNAH BUXTON his wife who died the 29th January 1855 in her 96th year Sacred to the memory of MARY ANN wife of the Rev.
